1927 – David Melville

David Melville
born 1884, Tayport
died Feb 1927, Hong Kong

from the Leven Mail 16th March 1927:

David Melville was a private in the KOSB and died in Hong Kong the previous month (February 1927) of pneumonia.
Melville’s home was at 4 Lawson Square, Buckhaven.
“David Melville was in the vanguard of great footballers sent from Buckhaven to premier teams. As a lad he won a place for himself in the junior club at Toll Park (Buckhaven United – JC), a team which became one of the most foremost in Fife.
Half-Back was his forte.
Partick Thistle got on his track and for a couple of seasons he strove against the premier players of Scotland.
He also had seasons with Stockport, York City, and other leading clubs.
He joined up in 1914 and on de-mobilisation settled in his native town. The prospect of a long spell of idleness in May sent him back to the colours.”
