Match Report: The People, 22nd July 2001

Football: Glens may go for African's; Glentoran 1 Partick Thistle 1.

THERE could be two new Africanstars in the Glentoran line-up in the new season after two mystery men appeared in yesterday's pre-season friendly against Partick Thistle.

Manager Roy Coylepulled off a surprise by not naming the two men on the teamsheet before sending them into action at half-time.

Tim McCann and Darren Fitzgerald were replaced by Ramould Mandela and Sin Turay.

Mandela is a former Cameroon U21 international and lists CSKASofia among his previous clubs.

Turay is believed to come from Zaire and had a spell with English non-league side Margate recently.

"They have come over and trained with us this week. We had a look at them today and anything is possible," said Coyle.

Darren Armour marked his Glentoran debut with the opening goal.

As fatigue set in the Glens let Partick in for an equaliser they scaresly deserved. Steven Craigan's long throw from the left was back heeled in by Scott McLean three minutes from time.
