CALLAGHAN, William Thomas
born. 23.03.1967, Dunfermline
Forward who during 15 years served 10 senior clubs with much effort and graft. He made his league debut in February 1985 for Dunfermline Athletic in a 2-2 draw at East End Park with Stirling Albion in the 2nd Division. He was released by the Pars and signed for Halbeath where he remained for 2 seasons. He surprisingly re-signed for Dunfermline Athletic in 1987 who by this time had been led to the Premier league by charismatic manager Jim Leishmen, me made 8 appearances for the Pars in the top flight grabbing 2 goals. He then had a loan spell at Firhill with tenants Clyde in March 1989. Season 1989-90 saw Willie loaned out to Clyde, Walsall and Cowdenbeath before getting a free transfer from the Pars. In 1990 after a trial with Albion Rovers he moved north to Highland League Inverness Thistle, this was followed by a spell back in the Juniors with Ketly Hearts. In 1991 he moved to 1st Division Montrose, he then moved to Cowdenbeath where he played his best football scoring 25 goals over 3 seasons with the Blue Brazil, and he was also part of the team that created headlines beating Premier League Partick Thistle in the Scottish Cup 3rd Round at Frihill. In 1995 he signed for Meadowbank Thistle and in 1996 helped the newly renamed club Livingston win the 3rd Division. He signed for Partick Thistle from Livingston in 1998 but in a struggling Jags side he failed to score in 17 first team starts, and on the 21st November 1998 played his last senior league game for Thistle in a 1-0 defeat away to Arbroath. He moved back into the juniors with spells at Glenafton Athletic and Camelon. In 212 league appearances he managed 29 goals.
He was a team-mate of his cousin Tommy at Thistle.
