Centre-Half who signed for Thistle from Blantyre Victoria in 1921. He made 4 first team appearances for the Jags filling in when Joe Harris and Matt Wilson where out the team. He guested for Third Lanank in 1922 before moving to the American Soccer League and signing for Bethlehem Steel in early 1923. Bill played eight seasons for Bethlehem Steel appearing in 264 games and leading the club to the U.S. Open Cup in 1926, the ASL championship in 1927 and the Lewis Cup in 1928. He transfered to Newark in 1930 and made 23 appearances, his final recorded appearance came playing 1 game for the New York Americans in season 1931-32.
Bill Carnihan also captained the United States national team against Canada at Ebbets Field, Brooklyn in 1925 and 1926.
