English born Half-Back who started out with Yoker Athletic before moving to Clydebank Juniors where he caught the eye of Thistle and duly signed in May 1942. He was thrust into the first team immediately making his league debut at St Mirren Park as the Jags fought out a 1-1 draw in the Southern League. In 1945 he helped Thistle win the Summer Cup (along with teammates Bill Shankly and Jackie Husband) beating Hibernian 2-0 at Hampden in front of an estimated 25,000 fans. He would make 151 first team appearances for Thistle despite spells on home leave down south where he played for Portsmouth and for a unknown team in North Wales [Daily Record 16/5/1946]. After leaving Firhill he had a unsuccessful spell at Stirling Albion before returning south signing for Division 3 South outfit Northampton Town where he made 138 appearances in 4 seasons. He then had a 2 year spell with Shrewsbury Town before ending his playing career in the United Counties League with Wellingbrough Town.
