BRADY, Darren Simon
born. 04.11.1981, Glasgow
Midfield. A hardworking player who was brought to Firhill from Raith Rovers by Dick Campbell during season 2004-05. A product of Airdrieonians boys club, who made his league debut at the age of 18 for Airdrieonians. He was part of the Airdrieonians team that won the League challenge cup in November 2000, five months later he was one of a number of players Airdrie were forced to release players just before the transfer deadline, Darren was in some demand and joined Dundee United on a short term deal until the end of the season, making one sub's appearance. He then moved on to fellow SPL side Livingston but he failed to make the first team at Almondvale, despite gaining rave reviews for the Livvy Under 21 side as they managed to split the old-firm finishing 2nd in the SPL under 21 league. He moved to 2nd Division Raith Rovers in search of first team football and the move proved to be correct as the Fifers won the 2nd Division championship managed by former Jags player Peter Hetherston. Season 2004-05 saw Raith Rovers appoint Frenchman Claude Anelka as director of football, and Rovers imported players from over Europe, with Darren remaining one of the few Scottish players at Stark’s Park, as Rovers played some of the worst football the Scottish 1st Division has ever seen, and with Rovers bottom of the table Brady signed for Thistle but failed to help halt the Jags slide down the table . Both Rovers and Thistle were relegated to the 2nd Division at the end of the season. Thistle gained promotion at the first attempt via a play-off victory over Peterhead, but Brady failed to win over a section of the Firhill fans despite managers Dick Campbell faith in the midfielder. On Thistle’s return to the 1st Division Brady remained a first team regular playing in over 40 games. After Ian McCall replaced Dick Campbell as manager, Brady was released and joined Campbell at Ross County but his stay in Dingwall was a season long, again upon being released he joined Dick Campbell at lowly Forfar Athletic.
His brother Garry played for Tottenham Hotspur, Newcastle United, Portsmouth, Dundee and St Mirren.
