Half-Back. Barber signed for Bolton Wanderers from West Stanley in 1908. He helped the Wanderers win the 2nd Division in 1910, during his time with Bolton he made 102 appearances, scoring 5 goals. He moved to Aston Villa for £1,950 in 1913, by the end of that season he had helped the villa win the FA Cup with a 1-0 victory over Sunderland. The outbreak of World War 1 saw the end of his playing career in the top flight of English football with him like many others joining up. He returned to Britain after being wounded at the Western front in the summer of 1916. While stationed in Scotland in 1918 he represented England against Scotland in the Haig Hospital fund international at Celtic Park 8th June 1918. After this game he joined Celtic and made 6 appearances in the Scottish League, all but one with Celtic the other seeing him score in a 5-1 romp for Thistle over St Mirren at Firhill on the 28th December 1918 this was all the more remarkable as the previous month he had contracted Pleurisy. After the war had ended, he returned to the English league with Stalybridge Celtic, Crystal Palace, Merthyr Town and Walsall. By 1921 he was playing non-league football for Darlaston in the Birmingham & District league the following seons he joined his last club Hinckley United in the Leicestershire Senior League. He passed away in 1925 dieing of tuberculosis.
