BAIGRIE, Hugh
born. 1912, Nigg, Aberdeenshire
Midfielder. Signed for Partick Thistle in September 1933 from Aberdeen Woodside. Making his first team debut 7 months later against Third Lanark at Firhill which saw the Jags win 3-0, courtesy of a hat-trick by Sandy McLennan. He was in and out the first eleven the following 3 seasons but still managed to pick up a Glasgow Charity Cup Winners Medal when the Jags beat Queen’s Park 2-1 at Hampden. Unable to hold down a starting place in 1935-36 he moved to fellow 1st division side Ayr United just before Christmas but he was unable to help the Honest Men avoid finishing bottom. He returned to Firhill and made 16 starts the following season but he moved back to Ayr on a permanent transfer in December 37. By October 1938 his transfer to Ayr had turned sour and he was on the open to transfer list. Cheltenham matched the small sum Ayr demanded but Baigrie didn't want to leave his Bishopbriggs home. The following season he moved to Montrose where he remained until December 1940.
