ARCHIBALD, Alan Maxwell
born. 13.12.1977, Glasgow Partick Thistle 1996

The left sided defender first appeared in the Partick Thistle youth team of 1994-95 alongside Kenny Arthur after joining from Rangers boys club. He made his senior debut for the premier reserve team in a 1-0 win over Rangers at Douglas Park with Neal Diamond getting the winning goal. Alan continued to progress and after a spell on loan to Kilwinning Rangers Murdo MacLeod handed him his 1st team debut at Bayview in a 2-0 win for the Jags. He was outstanding the following season despite relegation to the 2nd Division, he picked up various supporters club player of the year awards. He also gained international reconginisition gaining 5 Under 21 caps. He was linked with various big money moves to England but Alan remained with the Jags and was a integral part of the famous John Lambie team that won back to back promotions from the 2nd Division to the SPL and got to a Scottish cup semi-final at Hampden. Alan moved from Firhill when John Lambie retired in 2003 after more than 250 top tteam games, under freedom of contract he moved north to sign for Ian McCall’s Dundee United. His first season on Tayside saw him pick up various player of the year awards as he continued his good form. In May 2006 he picked up a Scottish Cup runners up medal losing 1-0 to Celtic, unfortunately his last minute long distance shot hit the crossbar and he ended up on a losing side. He returned to Firhill in April 2007 and helped the club secure it’s 1st division status.
