ALSTON, David ALSTON, David 1933-34 & 1936-37 - Partick Thistle A Z

An outside-right who joined Thistle from Rothesay Royal Victoria juniors in 1933. He made an excellent start to the season scoring on his league debut in a 7-3 victory at Hamilton Academical in August but by the end of September he had drifted out of the 1st team reckoning. He returned to the juniors with Arthurlie but re-signed for Thistle in February 1937, although he remained with the Dunterlie Park side long enough to give them their first Scottish Junior cup win, an emphatic 5-1 victory over Kirkintilloch Rob Roy at Celtic Park in front of 23,000 fans lifting a winners medal also was Alex Galt who would join up at Firhill the following season.. Season 1937-38 he managed 14 games in the 1st team netting 5 times. But the following season he was again a reserve player playing only 2 games for the 1st eleven both defeats in early January to Clyde and Rangers. He was given a free transfer in February and signed for 1st Division rivals St Mirren. In 1965 he was still involved at Arthurlie.
