Puggy as he was known signed for Partick Thistle from Motherwell in early September 1936, he had been transfer listed with the Fir Park side and had been playing for Dalbeattie Star. The experienced half-back with over 200 1st Division appearances to his name made his name at Hamilton Acadmical whom he joined from Burbank Athletic in 1928 and was selected as a reserve for Scotland in 1932 vs. France, he moved to the Accies near rivals in 1933. All his appearances in Red and Yellow were in the no.2 shirt, he was released in April 1937. He later played for Bo'ness and Albion Rovers.
