Experienced Dundee keeper who joined Thistle during a injury crisis in August 1987. He began his career with his local side Dumbarton in 1979 signing from Vale of Leven, He transferred to Dundee in 1984 in 8 years in Dundee he would battle with Bobby Geddes for the number 1 jersey, when not first pick he would often be loaned out with spells at Hibernian, Thistle, QOS,Dunfermline Athletic, Ipswich Town and Dumbarton. On leaving Dundee in 1992 he signed for Raith Rovers helping the Fifers with the 1st Division. He re-joined Vale of Leven in 1994 before becoming assistant manager at Dumbarton in 1998 and stepping up to Manager in 2000 his tenure lasting two seasons.

He made 278 League Appearances (6 at Thistle).

He was the younger brother of Thistle defender Joe who also seen service with Arbroath, Motherwell, Dumbarton, Stranraer, Vale of Leven and Pollok.
