Scores 4 vs. Albion RoversCAMERON, Ian
Born. 24.08.1966 Glasgow

Cultured midfielder who signed for Thistle from Aberdeen in the summer of 1992 for a fee reported to be between £75,000 and £90,000. Ian was brought up in the west end of Glasgow and represented the Glasgow’s Schools and Scotland an Under 15 level. He signed for Premier league St Mirren in October 1983 stepping up from the Buddies boys club. He made his first team debut at Love Street in a famous 2-1 win for the Saints over Rangers in March 1985. He was part of the St Mirren team that won the Scottish Cup in 1987 (alongside Kenny McDowell, Billy Abercromby and Brian Hamilton) beating Dundee United 1-0. He moved to Aberdeen in August 1989 for a reported fee of £215,000 but in nearly three seasons at Pitodrie he made 27 premier league appearances, scoring only once. His arrival at Firhill in 1992 helped the newly promoted Jags avoid relegation and as Thistle maintained their Premier League status for four seasons Cameron played some of his best ever football in 172 appearances, netting 19 goals in all competitions. He hit the headlines when he scored 4 goals vs. Albion Rovers in a league cup tie when Thistle romped to a 11-1 victory. When Thistle were cruelly relegated in 1996 Cameron decided to leave and joined Hibernian with David Farrell and Gareth Evans joining Thistle in the 1st Division. After a season at Hibernian he signed for Raith Rovers where he stayed for two seasons (1997-98 & 1998-99), he also had a loan spell at 2nd Divison Clyde. In 1999 he moved to Clydebank where he stayed with the homeless club for one season before making a brief return to Firhill helping the 2nd Division Jags into the 1st Division. Unfortunetly he couldn’t celebrate the clubs Championship because he moved to Airdrieonians in March where he finished his playing days his last appearance coming in a 1-1 draw with Ayr United. In June 2008 he returned to Firhill for a third time as coach on the Thistle under 17 side. His son also Ian played for Thistle during season 2004-05 and represented Scotland under 16’s, he left Firhil in 2006 and played for the Airdrie United youth side before moving to the USA.
