Half-Back. Signed by Partick Thistle from Rutherglen Glencairn in 1926. After some good showing for the Thistle Reserves in the Alliance West, Stewart was called up to replace Charlie McKendrick at left back in September 1926. He went on to make 420 first team appearances for the Jags during which he stared at both half back positions. Stewart was described as being determined and fearless in the tackle and a good user of the ball. In 12 seasons at Firhill he played in 6 cup finals and was ever present in the league in 3 different seasons. He managed only 9 goals for Thistle, his first time on the scoresheet (in over 300 games) was for a impressive double in September 1935 helping the Jags beat Motherwell 4-1 at Firhill. He left Firhill like so many others with years of great service with a free transfer in the summer of 1939. Shortly after signing for Queen’s Park Rangers the 2nd World War started and effiectlyy ended Stewart’s football career. He enlisted in the RAF and trained the RAF select side. Away from football Stewart was a very keen golfer and he won the Kirkhill Championship in 1933.
