born. 27.01.1960, Johnstone, Renfrewshire BRYCE, Tommy 1998-99 - Partick Thistle A Z

Midfielder. Tommy was appointed player manager of Partick Thistle after the turbulent season of 1997-98. The Jags relegated to 2nd Division after staving off a major financial crisis with the Save the Jags campaign had to cut costs freeing most of the seasoned pro’s and bringing in experienced 2nd Division part time players. 38 year old Bryce had previously racked up 619 league appearances in a career that started in the 1979 with Premier League Kilmarnock and taken him to Stranraer, Queen of the South, Clydebank and Ayr United. As a management novice at Firhill after a bright start the team began to slide down the league and faced a unthinkable relegation to the 3rd Division. Bryce was relieved of his management duties replaced by John Lambie. Bryce remained as a player for a short spell under the new boss before being granted a free transfer and returned for a third spell at Queen of the South, followed by a move to Arbroath and finally finishing his league playing career at Stranraer in 2001 after playing in 703 league games in every division, scoring 164 goals including 4 goals in one game and five different hat tricks. Not bad for a midfielder. He moved into world of Ayrshire junior football first as player manager at Glenafton Athletic then as manager of Troon and Kilbirnie Ladeside.
