AUCHENCLOSS, James Currie
born. 1883, Barrhead, Renfrewshire

This Arthurlie half-back arrived at 2nd Division Partick Thistle in the summer of 1896. Aucehcloss helped the Jags win the title and gain promotion. Over his 3 seasons with Thistle he only missed 5 1st team games out of 79 1st eleven games. His form was so good that he came to the attention of the Scotland selectors and was invited to play in the annual trial game in February 1899 which was played at the familiar surroundings of Meadowside. He was transferred to 1st Division rivals St Mirren for £100, in September 1899 after he had refused to play for Thistle the previous month. In 1901 he returned to previous club Arthurlie.

Regular right-back for three seasons, successfully paired with Andrew Wilson. Refused terms at start of 1899-00 season and was transferred to St Mirren in September 1899.
