Injury to John Brough seen Gordon signed on loan from Stirling Albion. He signed for Dundee in 1974 from Dundonald Bluebell but failed to make the Dens Park first team, hr returned junior with his first club, before signing for Stirling Albion making his first team debut in season 1977-78. In the summer of 1980 he was called up to the Scotland semi-professional squad for the four nations tournament in Zeist. He played in two of the three games a 4-2 win over England and a 0-0 draw with Italy. The following summer again he was called up and played once in a 2-2 draw with Holland in the Montecatini Terme, Italy. His first of two game for Thistle was in a great 5-1 victory at Somerset Park which endeared him to the fans. Played in only two games but made a great impression with the Firhill faithful, he then returned to Annfield. The following summer he moved to premier league Dumbarton for £15,000 playing over 150 games for the Sons in four seasons. He then played for Raith Rovers, Forfar Athletic, Arbroath and finally Montrose in 1997. Wining the 1st division with Raith and the 3rd division with Forfar Athletic. In total Gordon had played 614 league appearances.
