ALLAN, George Horsburgh

A former Scotland international forward who started his early footballing career with local sides Vale of Avon, Linlinthigow Ahleitc and Broxburn Shamrock, he came to prominace in 1894 with Bo’ness, a short spell with Leith Ahletic earned him a move south to Liverpool for season 1895-96 where be bagged a fantastic 25 goals from 20 league matches as the Reds won the Second Division championship. He made his one and only international appearance for Scotland in April 1897 in a 2-1 vicory over England at Crystal Palace alongside Neilly Gibson then of Rangers. He moved to Celtic shortly after his international cap and he managed 15 goals in 17 1st Division games as Celtic won the title he even had a early Christmas present grabbing 5 goals against the hapless Clyde in a 9-1 victory on Christmas day. He died of tuberculosis at his family home in Fife in 1899.
